Photoplay, New York, March 1932.

SARI MARITZA Where did the little Dutch-English beauty with

the Viennese name get those sad, dreamy eyes?

She had them as The Other Girl in Forgotten Commandments.

But in the last picture she made abroad, Monte Carlo

Madness, they were wide-open and sparkling. All of which seems

to prove that a girl who is a comédienne in one country

may be a tragédienne in another. While waiting to start her second American picture, she is renewing her friendship

with Charlie Chaplin, who „discovered“ her in London.

& BOHEMIAN CAFE we dropped into say hello to Eugene Stark

at this popular cafe, and the first one we ran across

was Mr. and Mrs. Tom Mix. They were as happy as a couple

of turtle doves all by themselves, and on each side

of ‘em were many prominent folks, for instance we saw Anita

Stewart and her hubby, Harry Crocker.

& A Genius, Not a Husband

„CHARLIE CHAPLIN? I know him very well. I like him

so much. When he is in a party, there is nobody else

in that party at all. He is the all of it. I think he is a very great genius.“ (...) „He is an egotist, too, of course.“ (...)

„Charlie Chaplin would probably not be a husband for any

woman.“ (...) „I think the world would not have been

the same if there had been no Charlie Chaplin.“

„No, no, not another one. We can‘t bear it.

These long lashes, that sloe-eyed look, those tip-tilted eyebrows,

that hair brushed off the forehead. Whom does she make

you think of? Shh, don‘t say it. Sari Maritza has a glamorous background. Her mother is Austrian, father English. She

was born in China and just before she came to Hollywood and

signed her Paramount contract her name was linked with

Chaplin‘s in Europe, but (whisper) it might have been just publicity.

You‘ll be seeing her soon.“
