Photo. PAULINE GODDARD
As leading lady for Charlie Chaplin in his forthcoming
picture, to be released probably in September,
Pauline Goddard will again appear on the screen. Miss
Goddard is a daughter of a former Salt Lake City
resident, and a descendant in the fifth generation of Lorenzo
Snow, pioneer of Utah. Her mother was Alta Goddard,
whose father was a prominent real estate man in the city.
Pauline‘s parental grandfather also was a resident
of the city, Sam Levy, well known cigar manufacturer, whose
son is known as Joe R. Levee.
Mr. and Mrs. Levee were married in New York City
in 1908, and Mr. Levee has been for a number
of years associated with Warner Bros., film producers,
in Buffalo and New York City.
Miss Goddard collaborated with Mr. Chaplin in the
writing pf the play now being filmed, which so far
is known only as Production No. 5. It is concerned with
the lower strata of life in San Francisco, Miss
Goddard appearing as a waif of the wharves. While
it is not a silent picture, Chaplin himself, whose
screen success has been entirely in pantomime, is not
to speak throughout, according to Mr. Levee,
who has paid Salt Lake City a visit during the week,
to renew old acquaintance.
Before going to Hollywood, Miss Goddard was
playing in the legitimate, appearing in a leading
role in Ziegfeld‘s „Rio Rita“ in New York City, and in other
Ziegfeld productions. When she arrived in Hollywood
she contracted S. Goldwyn and was given a part in one
of his productions, and also appeared in Hal Roach
pictures.

& CHAPLIN RETURNS
Eight producers will contribute to the 1935-36
program of films to be released through United Artists during
the coming season.
Charlie Chaplin, Samuel Goldwyn, Mary Pickford,
David O. Selznick, Alexander Korda, Reliance
Pictures and Darryl Zanuck will be represented by 24
feature-length productions. Walt Disney has
scheduled 18 Mickey Mouse and Silly Symphony productions
for release.
For the first time in four years, Charlie Chaplin will
be seen in a new production, a dramatic comedy
in which the master of pantomime will present a story based
on mass production in an immense factory and its
tragi-comic effect on a mere individual who is a small cog
among a million wheels.
