The next day, Monday, it was decided that a „live“ revue
could be broadcast two days later – the first since
the outbreak of war. Producer Vernon Harris, working through
the night in his blacked-out office, finished the script
only about two hours before the transmission on Wednesday
evening, 6 September (1939). In it was the first big
topical hit of the war „Who is this man who looks like Charlie
Chaplin?“ written for Tommy Handley by John Watt
and Max Kester.
