Astor and Capitol

Everybody who is anybody in cafe and theatrical society,
turned out last night to hear Charlie Chaplin speak.
The little comedian, who has become something of a legend
to picture-goers these last few years, opened his
mouth for the first time on the screen and promptly put his
left foot into it.
The Great Dictator, which had its world premiere at both
the Astor and Capitol theatres with all the fanfare that
attended the dual openings of Gone With the Wind last year,
is a disappointing film. It is by no means the great satire
that we were led to expect from the little master‘s studios.“ (...)
