The Cure Clippings 60/70
Terry Ramsaye, Photoplay, New York, September 1917.
I DIDN‘T see Chaplin in „The Cure“ last month in time to put
my rubber stamp on it for this ledger of excellencies,
but, like the soul of John Brown, „The Cure“ has been marching
on, regardless. Now, any rehash of the incidents in this
farcelet would be as newsy as an announcement that Joffre
has visited America. As long as Chaplin continues to
make photoplays as close to human nature as „The Cure,“
which is full of the international humor that every man
laughs at, whatever his language, so long will Chaplin‘s place
as First Clown of the World be undisputed.

& „The Cure“ (Mutual). – Wherein Charlie Chaplin proves
himself a great comedian. There is little slapstick
comedy used in this burlesque on sanatorium life. Chaplin‘s
inimitable expressions and postures are so
spontaneous that one cannot for a moment think of his work
as preconceived effort. It is interesting to note that
of each of Mr. Chaplin‘s latest comedies one feels like saying
„the best yet.“ H. S. N. (Hazel Simpson Naylor)
