„Mr. Chaplin is immense“

Editorial content. „Empress. Everyone connected with

the Empress theatre is ecstatically happy this week. When

Women Rule, now being presented at the Empress,

seems to have gotten under the fifth rib of all who have seen

it. The jammed audience since the opening of the present

bill speak well of its merit. It‘s becoming quite the habit with

Empress patrons to tear up, figuratively and hysterically

speaking, the seats. (...)

      Fred Karno and his London Comedians, eighteen of them,

present Charles Chaplin in the funniest of all Karno skits,

A Night in a London Club. Chaplin is known from coast to coast

as the original ,souse.‘ The word is not pretty but fits

in describing the character. As the original dyed in the wool

drunkard, Mr. Chaplin is immense. At this point the

house slipped and stripped its gear and goes stark staring

crazy with joy. Mr. Chaplin slammed and is slammed

about the stage in a manner miraculous. He inflicts falls

upon others and takes a number himself.

      Everyone on the stage does weired topplings. A Night

in a London Club is just the funniest act that has played

the Empress a many a long month, and at its completion there

is more applause.“ (...)

Verbundene ist ekstatisch glücklich in dieser Woche.

When Women Rule, das jetzt im Empress gezeigt wird, scheint

alle, die es gesehen haben, unter der  fünften Rippe

erreicht zu haben. Das seit Eröffnung des aktuellen Programms

dichtgedrängte Publikum lobt seine Meriten. (...)

      Fred Karno und seine Londoner Comedians, achtzehn

insgesamt, präsentieren Charles Chaplin in der lustigsten aller

Karno Parodien, A Night In A London Club. Chaplin ist

von Küste zu Küste bekannt als der originale Betrunkene.

Kein hübsches Wort, aber um den Charakter

zu beschreiben passend.

      Als der originelle, in der Wolle gefärbte Trinker

ist Mr. Chaplin immens. Das Haus tobt und legt, übergeschnappt

vor Vergnügen, alle Hemmungen ab. Mr. Chaplin teilt auf

der Bühne in höchst mirakulöser Weise Hiebe aus und steckt

Hiebe ein. Er bürdet anderen Stürze auf und landet

selber welche.

      Jeder macht auf der Bühne unheimliche Sprünge,

A Night In A London Club ist einfach der lustigste Akt, mit dem

das Empress in vielen Monaten bespielt wird, und an

seinem Ende ist noch mehr Applaus.“
