& Manager Edel, of the Strand Theatre,
is a glutton for punishment, apparently. He stages a fourth
anniversary at his house and then leads „A Dog‘s
Life“ all week, with „A Face in the Dark“ staring at him for
seven days. That‘s hunting trouble, we say.

& Highbrow and Lowbrow (...)
Charlie Chaplin, as an institution, has both admirers and
detesters. But these two classes refuse to be analyzed
as „lowbrow“ and „highbrow.“ Chaplinism is lowbrowism; yet among
the stanch friends of Charlie‘s screenings
are college professors, poets and scientists.

„Rendering solos on the pipe organ“

At the Strand Theater.
Charlie Chaplin, in his latest comedy A Dog‘s Life,
to be shown exclusively at the Strand. As Jane
Ridgeway in The Face in the Dark, by Irvin S. Cobb, Mae Marsh
essays an interesting role. She is the daughter
of a celebrated secret service man, and the film is a drama
of thrills, mystery and suspense, with a love story
interwoven. The Topical Review, as edited by Mr. Edel, contains
the latest news pictures from this country and some
scenes that have just arrived from France of Our Boys at the
Front. Rosa Lind and Giovanni Camello will sing
the duet finale of Act I from Madame Butterfly. Dorothy South,
a newcomer to the Strand, will sing The Star,
by Rogers, and Love is Best of All from Victor Herbert‘s
Princess Pat. Ralph H. Brigham and Herbert
Sisson will be rendering solos on the pipe organ.“
Strand Theatre, Broadway at 47th Street, New York.
A Dog‘s Life is released by First National April 21, 1918.
The pre-release date is April 14, 1918.
