SKATES AND LAUGHS.

CHAPLIN GETS MUCH FUN OUT OF „PROPS“ IN „RINK.“

      By Grace Kingsley.

Getting comedy out of insensate objects must be an art.

I judge this from improvement in quantity and quality

of the fun which Charlie Chaplin obtains from „props“ around

him. In „The Rink,“ in which this greatest little comedian

begins as a waiter in a restaurant and ends as a champion roller

skater, he makes tables and chairs funnier than ever.

And as for the roller-skating rink, with its entirely new set

of props – why, he gets grins out of garters, snickers

out of skates, and laughter out of liniment. Incidentally he does

some really marvelous skating.

Charlie Chaplin, in „The Rink,“ is bringing the official joyland

to the Garrick Theater. Some of the stunts Chaplin

does on roller skates would make Allie Moore, speed champion

of the world, turn green with envy.

Despite the large crowds that are flocking to the theater

daily, the film will be shown for only one week more.

& Garrick.

„The Rink,“ Charles Chaplin‘s latest laugh vehicle, will start

on its second big week at the Garrick with the matinee

today, and indications are that there will be no diminishing

of the long lines of eager fun fans. This latest comedy

affords Chaplin a new method of making people laugh, showing

his skill in roller skate slants.

The action of the film is fast and furious, as is always the

case in Chaplin productions. Comic situations occur

with startling rapidity.
