The Pawnshop Clippings 99/99
San Francisco Silent Film Festival Press Release, Feb. 17, 2011.
This view reveals to good advantage the special canopied
ceiling of the Castro theatre, San Francisco. Suspended from
the center of this canopy is the Spanish lantern fixture.
The twin Scraffito panels, an interesting use of a famous Italian art,
are shown on the side walls.

„Some of the funniest moments ever put to screen“
Editorial content. „Our early program It‘s Mutual“ (...) „is a collection
of sparkling shorts by Charlie Chaplin, made during his
stint at the Mutual Film Corporation where he honed his craft
and became the genious director we think of today. The
shorts – The Pawnshop, The Rink and The Adventurer – contain
some of the funniest moments ever put to screen, and
are a glimpse into the development of this master of cinema.
And supplying the perfect accompaniment to Chaplin‘s
brilliance will be Donald Sosin at the baby grand piano. 35mm
film prints from the David Shepard Collection.“
Castro Theatre, 429 Castro Street, San Francisco.
