& At the Rialto, in celebration of the fourth anniversary
of this theatre, Charles Ray is offered in „Paris
Green,“ the formula for which must have been „usual rube off
stuff plus melodrama.“ That‘s the picture:
Charles Ray as his awkward, amusing, rural self, with some
wholly unnecessary melodrama thrown in. Not a
particularly good sample of what Ray can do. „The Pawnshop,“
a Chaplin revival, is more amusing than most of the
revivals seen, and contains some of the great Charlot‘s most
restrained moments. To introduce the feature picture
there are shown scenes of Paris; there is also a pictorial. The
musical feature of the bill is Liszt‘s „Sixth Hungarian
Rhapsody,“ with a czimbalon solo by Bela Nyary. Lack of space
forbids the explanation of this instrument, but go hear it.

& Rialto Orchestra to Be Shown
on Screen While the Living Musicians Play.
For anniversary week at the Rialto beginning
to-day Hugo Riesenfeld, the managing director,
has prepared a programme of two Charlies. Charles Ray
will appear in „Paris Green,“ a Thomas H. Ince
production, and Charles Chaplin will play in „The Pawnshop,“
a revival of a former success. As a special novelty
a motion picture will show the Rialto orchestra in action
playing Liszt‘s „Sixth Rhapsody,“ with close-ups of
the various soloists, while the living orchestra plays the same
number with the same conductor wielding the baton.
An elaborate musical and incidental programme in addition
will be presented.

& Rialto – After a week‘s run at the Rivoli, „The Young Diana,“
with Marion Davies as the star, moves to this house.
The story is by Marie Corelli and presents a new variation
of the „Faust“ theme, depicting a middle aged spinster
who dares the dangers of experimentation to recover youth
and beauty. Pedro de Gordoba plays the modern
Mephisto. Charlie Chaplin in „The Pawnshop“ and the Rialto
Magazine will also be shown. The music programme
opens with Massenet‘s „Phedre.“
