Wife Says He Is Serious-minded
CHARLIE CHAPLIN is capable of something far more
serious than the slapstick comedy stunts that have
made his name a tittering byword on the motion picture screens
of the world. The authority for this statement is his wife,
who, until her marriage a year ago last October, was Mildred
Harris, a famous motion picture star. And Mildred,
it would appear, ought to know.
,I believe my husband is a very much misunderstood man,‘
said Mrs. Chaplin. ,Most people regard him merely
as a great mimic and slapstick character, but I know that
he is a very serious man who can concentrate
on some of the deeper problems that trouble a workaday
world.‘
