The barber was talking“

Editorial content. „What Charlie Chaplin thinks

      of his Fun-making Job

Are you tired of the sugary heroines, conventional movie

plots and sentimental fade-outs? Charlie Chaplin proves

himself a real student of the film in telling why the movies must

throw out the sort of pictures now being produced.

Also, he has a delightful account of how he gets his ideas for

his own pictures.“

Great Question in Film World

      is Whether Harold Lloyd Has

      Displaced Charley Chaplin

      By James W. Dean

New York, Aug. 26. – The barber was talking as he wielded

his rasor. Valentino is a great actor, he thinks, but William

Farnum is greater. And who is his favorite actor of all? Harold

Lloyd. Does he think Lloyd better than Chaplin? ,I should

say!‘ he answers. ,Chaplin is always the same. Lloyd is always

different.‘

      –

In a theatre a flash on the screen announced the

coming of Harold Lloyd in Grandma‘s Boy. Said one man to

another near me:

,I‘ll have to see that. That fellow‘s the funniest guy

in the world.‘

The other man asked him if he thought he was funnier

than Chaplin.

,He‘s got Chaplin skinned seven different ways,‘ was

the reply.

      –

In another theatre the main title of a re-release is flashed

on the screen. It says ,Harold Lloyd in –‘ and before the

opening scene is disclosed there is a roar of applause. The only

time I have witnessed such an occurrence was on the

first night of the showing of The Three Musketeers when Doug

Fairbanks was there in person.“ (...)
