„The Gold Rush“ is the right title for Charles Chaplin‘s

latest production which opened at the Imperial Theatre,

San Francisco, on Christmas Day and is proving a real gold

mine for this house. The Imperial seats only 1,485

but this has not prevented it from getting into the $30,000

a week class with „Gold Rush.“ A lot of records

have been hung up since Charles M. Pincus assumed

the management, but never has such a wonderful

showing been made as with this picture. The initial week beat

by more than $8,000 the showing made during the first

week of „The Freshman“ run, which held the record until the

Chaplin film made its appearance. Even the second

week topped the former record-breaking week. For eight days

the house was opened at 8 a. m. and by 9:30 a. m.

there would be line-ups in the street. Notwithstanding the rush,

the renovating is going ahead. The house is being

repainted, new carpets put down, new seats installed and the

lighting system revamped.

is starting to drop. Grossed $9,200, with one more week

to go, then Valentino in The Eagle.“ (...)
