Wife of the comedian Enters Long term Contract
with New Company – To Build Studio in Hollywood Zone
MILDRED HARRIS CHAPLIN, wife of the famous
comedian, Charlie Chaplin, has signed a long term contract
to appear in pictures produced by Louis B. Mayer,
who recently organized the Mayer Production Company.
Miss Harris Chaplin, who will be known by that
name under the Mayer management, is said to have received
a large bonus for signing with Mr. Mayer, who
announced that she will be starred in a series of productions
founded on the works of well-known authors.
In the marketing of the Harris Chaplin pictures Mr. Mayer
will pursue the booking policy adopted by the Big
Four – Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks
and D. W. Griffith – excepting that the exhibitor
for his own protection may have the privilege of booking
the series if he so desires. Speaking of this plan,
Miss Harris Chaplin said: ,I realize that the open booking
method is the coming policy of the film industry,
and I further believe the independent producer has the biggest
opportunity in the business. That is why I have signed
with Mr. Mayer.‘“ (...)
