in New Film (...)
Charlie Chaplin will use sound and effects on the next
picture he is to make, „City Lights.“ It will not be a
talker, but sound and effect devices of various forms are
to be used to emphasize action.
Chaplin is experimenting on the value of sound and
effect before he decides as to what contrivances
he will use. If he uses the same one as United Artists, the
production of the sound and effect scenes will take
place at the United Artists‘ studios instead of a this own
studio on Sunset boulevard. He is still working
on the story and contemplates beginning shooting
about July 1.
Those so far scheduled for the cast in support are Myrna
Kennedy, Henry Bergman and Harry Crocker, Jr. All appeared
in „The Circus.“

Virginia Cherrill will be the leading woman in City Lights,
not Merna Kennedy.
