      „1000 $ hat es uns gekostet die Comedy

      Sensation des Jahres zu bekommen“, beginnt der Text in der

      Anzeige. „Der höchste je bezahlte Preis für die Miete

      eines Films in der Geschichte von Tacoma –

      aber wiegeln wir ab. Wir haben ihn. Charlie – Der 670000 $

      Comedian – Chaplin In A Burlesque On Carmen.“

      Gezeigt wird nicht Chaplins Fassung von Carmen

      in zwei Akten, sondern die Fassung von Essanay in vier Akten.

      Im Text der Anzeige wird das blumig überhöht:

      „Vier Akte Spass, Ausgelassenheit und lustiger Situationen.

      Der einzige genuine Chaplin Film Start in sechs Monaten.“

      Gegen diese, von ihm nicht autorisierte Fassung von

      „Carmen“ geht Chaplin gerichtlich vor. Aber einen Monat später

      verliert er.  Am 26. Mai 1916 meldet die Washington

      Times, das Gericht hätte die Klage von Chaplin gegen Essanay      

      abgewiesen.

„We‘re going to paint the town red tonight“

Editorial content. „Charlie‘s on Parade

      Something unique in the history of Tacoma photoplay

houses will be staged tonight. It will be a ,Charlie

Chaplin parade.‘ The Colonial theater, which will present Chaplin‘s great comedy, the burlesque on Carmen, all next week,

has arranged it. There will be an immense float, carrying a dozen

or more Chaplins, and several Carmens. The characters

will be acted by young Tacomans. Preceding the float will be a band. There will be red fire galore. ,We‘re going to paint the town

red tonight, and give the public a little free show, besides,‘ said Manager Moore today, in announcing his plans.“

      Essanay‘s Carmen Fake.

Redaktioneller Inhalt. „Etwas Einmaliges in der

Geschichte der Photoplay Häuser in Tacoma wird heute

Abend auf die Beine gestellt. Es gibt eine ,Charlie Chaplin Parade‘.

Das Colonial Theater, das Chaplins grossartige Comedy,

die Burlesque auf Carmen, die ganze nächste Woche zeigt, hat

sie arrangiert.“

      Und weiter: „Es gibt einen grossen Umzug mit einem

Dutzend oder mehr Chaplins und mehreren Carmens. Junge

Leute aus Tacoma stellen die Charaktere dar. Eine Band

führt den Umzug an.“

      „Es gibt jede Menge rotes Feuer.“ Ein pyrotechnischer

Effekt. „Geschäftsführer Moore: ,Wir malen die Stadt

heute Abend rot und bieten dem Publikum kostenlos eine

kleine Show.‘ Das sagte er bei der Vorstellung seiner

Pläne heute “
